Bruce Davidson “Brooklyn Gang” 1959

During the summer of 1959, 25 year old Bruce Davidson hooked himself up with a gang of teenagers in Brooklyn, NY. The ‘gang’ were known as The Jokers, and as he followed them round, his camera captured real moments, real joy, real tears. It is great to see this era documented so well, so honestly with more than a few characters on show. That summer, on hot weekend nights, dances were held at Prospect Park and Davidson was there, capturing the tough guys and not-so-shy gals. A much sought-after collectors item.
